Renexpo Interhydro unites European hydropower in Salzburg

Renexpo Interhydro is acknowledged to be Europe’s main hydropower-sector gathering. On the 21st and 22nd of March 2024, Messezentrum Salzburg provides the requisite framework for discussions between hydropower professionals, and a shared stage for business and politics. Experts at this key trade fair come from Austria and abroad to meet, swap and share information, and cultivate contact networks.

Practical relevance is the key

Almost 70 exhibitors, half of them from European countries beyond the Austrian border, present practical content and provide advice on specific questions fielded by operators and other industry representatives. Trade fair visitors receive a comprehensive overview of the industry - from power plant planning, water catchment and water protection issues, to special control systems and safety equipment. In the words of Managing Director DI (FH) Alexander Kribus, MBA: "We join our partners and exhibitors in aiming to provide trade visitors with the tools required to realise the energy transition. Several specialist presentations and keynote speeches will outline current possibilities for hydropower utilisation and highlight future potential."

Programme content with added value

The trade fair agenda features stage talks and panel discussions with decision-makers and industry representatives. Participants at the opening energy discussion: ‘13 years of the energy transition: Where is the journey heading? Centralised vs. decentralised energy supply’ include Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Josef Schwaiger (Salzburg State Councillor), Florian Streibl (Bavarian State Parliament MP), Dipl.-Ing. Hermann Steinmaßl (Chairman of LEE Bayern) and Dipl.-Ing. Herwig Struber, MSc (Chairman of Salzburg AG). Various presentations on specialised topics are to be held in the conference area, focussing on best-practice examples, revitalisation measures, black-start capabilities, island operation and energy communities.

Results of new water flow study revealed

Hans-Josef Fell is the 100% Renewable Energy Ambassador, and is President of the Energy Watch Group. At the Renexpo Interhydro Mr. Fell is due to hold a presentation on ‘Hydropower - an important contribution to climate protection and climate adaptation’, and will be revealing the results of the current hydropower study #Wasserkaft2030. The study shows that electricity generated from hydropower is the new game-changer for climate protection, regional energy production and water body biodiversity.

Press conference: Friday, 22nd March – 12:30pm in the Hydro Forum, hall 1.

Expert event: ‘River Management & Ecology’

A conference on river management and ecology, organised in cooperation with vgbe energy e.V. and VÖU, is to be held alongside the trade fair. The event will bring together leading operators, manufacturers and suppliers, authorities, research institutes and other stakeholders, to discuss important issues in the field of river management and ecology. The following topics are to take centre stage: Current international and regional research on eco-hydraulics, legal frameworks and experiences of practical implementation. The conference is to be held in English. Conference registration must be made separately.
